BILS/ELIXIR is funded from the Swedish Research Council.
For 2010, 4 MSEK; for 2011, 8.5 MSEK; and for 2012 13 MSEK/year.

Aims

• The aim of the proposed infrastructure is to provide bioinformatic support and education for the life science researchers in Sweden.
• The sustainable infrastructure should provide both local support and nation-wide specialised consultancy in bioinformatics.
• BILS should be the national contact point for ELIXIR (the future European infrastructure for biological information)
• BILS will also coordinate with EBI and other European bioinformatic efforts.

During 2009 and 2010, BILS is initiated thanks to a planning grant from the Swedish Research Council, and we plan to expand BILS successively during these years, to be ready when ELIXIR starts its functions.

During the planning phase of BILS, we will initiate a limited number of pilot activities.
